    More information about this below.

Windows 7 and 8 users are now able to reserve their free copy of Windows 10.

Now, if you have no intention on upgrading to Windows 10 right away or you want to perform a clean install of Windows 10 without reserving Windows 10 when it gets released then this article will show you how to remove the Get Windows 10 application on your system.

How to remove the 'Get Windows 10' app from your PC and cancel your upgrade reservation.

Will you be upgrading to Windows 10 when it gets released on July 29th?

Evan Omo do you think my PC specs are suitable for the Windows 10 upgrade?
Will it cause problems during upgrading, just like when users upgrade from Windows ME/2000 to XP years ago?

The icon appeared on my Win 8.1 pc today. I do not have windows updates turned on, I check for and install the updates once a month on my schedule.
Two things that they do not say.
This is a limited time offer. How long will the offer to upgrade free of charge last?
For those of us that did the free upgrade from 8 to 8.1, what is our recovery option if we accept this free upgrade to win 10? Will we have to reinstall windows 8, then upgrade to 8.1, then upgrade to win 10? That is assuming that we can still get a free upgrade from 8 to 8.1, then a free upgrade to 10.
My pc came with windows 8 installed and that is the only recovery option I have to get 8.1 installed without buying a new license. Does anyone know the answers yet?

Here are the System Requirements for Windows 10.

That honestly depends on what programs you have running as well as what drivers you have installed for your hardware. I can't say that an upgrade install will work perfectly but in most cases it should work fine. However, you might experience some issues with certain programs and hardware devices no longer working so in my opinion its best to perform a clean install of Windows whenever you are upgrading unless you are 100% certain that everything will work when performing an in-place upgrade of Windows 10.

I don't know the exact date but we can assume its 12 months after Windows 10 gets released will be when the free upgrade offer expires.

You can roll back to a previous version of Windows if you don't like Windows 10. See this link, How to: Rollback to a previous version of Windows from Windows 10.

This feature will only work if you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Here is a FAQ about Windows 10 that should answer the majority of the other questions that may get asked in this thread, Frequently Asked Questions: Windows 10.

I guess 60+ will not have a chance. I'll have to hire a 3 year old.

    Windows 10

I am running W 7 Pro, and it is working fine. Is there any good reason NOT to take advantage of this free offer. It seems that, If I let it run, MS will do the upgrade almost behind my back.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a one-year old PC. I have the Windows 10 icon in my system tray. Not sure if I will upgrade right away to the new OS. My way is to wait a few months and see if the early bugs can be fixed before upgrading. Does it look to anyone that the free upgrade is only for a specific period time? I didn't see any indication that there was a time limit on the free upgrade offer. Also, does anyone out there have an opinion on whether it is better to do a clean install vs. a upgrade from an existing OS (8.1)? Well, I should have read some of the other Windows 10 posts elsewhere on Windows BBS. I found answers to all of these questions I asked: 1 year to upgrade with free offer according to a posting elsewhere; a clean install looks to be the best option, again, according to some posts elsewhere on this site. Thanks for your patience everyone with my quick response.

I'll install it at some point. I tried to install it a month or two ago, and not only did it not work, but it wasn't able to take my laptop back to the original Windows 7. Fortunately I did this at a time when I was going to reinstall Windows on my laptop anyways, so it wasn't a major loss. But it would be nice to be able to remove this "update" if it doesn't work right. I would assume that by this time, a few kinks have gotten worked out. My specs are good enough for it....

I haven't seen the icon yet.

    I guess a single-core Celeron processor doesn't qualify, but I'm sure a i3 would.

Paul, did you have a thorough look through the link I Posted? I'm sure that W10 uninstall procedure was mentioned somewhere in there.
I'll Post a link if I find it again - there is a suggested MS way to do it. Neil.

I'm in the painful transition from an 11-year-old eMachines desk-top with XP to a new Dell lap-top with 8.1. I can't understand why MS went to so much trouble to make the Win 8 series so unlike the earlier versions of Windows. The absence of any obvious file structure is very confusing. It got a bit easier when I found "Classic Shell ", but I'm still floundering quite a lot. It's very annoying for someone who's been working with computers since 1966. I've done ALGOL, FORTRAN, two different flight simulator assembly languages and Windows from 3.0 through XP.

If I'd wanted an Apple, I'd have bought one! I was not too impressed when DW got an iPad as a birthday gift, but now I'm fighting the anomalies of Win 8.1, I'm envious of how easy she finds the iPad.

There might be a trade-in offer of my Dell for an Apple coming soon!!

A pox on Microsoft for messing things up so bad. Changes just for the hell of it? No consideration of your long-term supporters? Seems an odd business procedure to deliberately ignore/p..s off your loyal customers.

    Not that I can tell.

I read that this was an optional update, but I don't usually install those.
