Will it do any good if ReadyBoost is used on a 32 GB USB 3.0 flash drive?

I just bought a 32 GB USB 3.0 flash drive, which is supported by my motherboard. Will it do any good if ReadyBoost is used on it? Please refer to my system information.

Assuming USB 3.0 is faster than SATA-II, would it do any good if Windows was installed on the flash drive?

I wouldn't do that. Flash drivers are no where near as dependable than a hard drive.

What if software that is not part of Windows, e.g. browsers, is installed on the flash drive? Will it do any good?

Further to my Post about speed - USB Boost is set in BIOS in your Asus m/b and because you have used the slower (1333) RAM I doubt if you get any "extra" speed.
Why the need for speed? Have you got UFB for your internet? Neil.

I just bought the said flash drive for a cheap price, which tempted me into purchase, but I actually don't need it, so I am thinking about how to make use of it. Perhaps it could be used to speed up my computer, which I don't find slow.

Mine is 10 Mbps broadband, which is already enough for me.

I have just tried it, and I can't notice any difference.

A 32GB Thumb drive USB3 can be used to store your Recovery system or any Files you need to backup. You should notice quite a difference in transferring info from the comp to the USB3 drive and vice versa - much quicker than USB2. Neil

I doubt that USB flash drives are reliable for backups, because I have two inoperable drives, namely KINGSTON and SILICON POWER.

There's a good chance enabling ReadyBoost on your system will actually degrade performance, not improve it. See How-To Geek Explains: Is ReadyBoost Worth Using?

With only 4Gb in your computer and integrated graphics, without a doubt if looking to improve your computer's performance, the best bang for your money will be to replace your RAM with 2 x 4Gb sticks. After that, I would recommend adding a decent graphics card, but with only a 250W PSU, you most likely would need a new PSU to support a new graphics card. Note I am assuming we are talking about the computer listed in your "My System" list.

Bill, I see you noticed the same things I did. RAM will be faster with 1600Mhz and I wonder if Matthew has followed the instructions in Asus CPU list?
PSU would be my biggy - 250W is going to be stretched big time if you want a speedy comp. Neil.

There is only 4GB RAM on my computer, but the usage is only 20%. Does it mean it is already more than enough? How could my computer's performance be improved if 2 x 4GB were used?

That's 20% of your total virtual (physical plus page file) memory and that is while you are basically doing nothing. And since the PF is on your slow hard drive, that is actually a bottle neck.

Technically, yes. It has "more than enough "... ...to run. But when starting out with 4Gb, adding more RAM is not about being about to run Windows and your programs. It is about improving performance.

If 4GB x 2 are used, the size of the virtual memory page file, which is on my hard disk, will be reduced, because physical memory will be used instead of virtual memory.
    Am I right or wrong?
