Can you import your contacts into a different account?

Outlook 2010..It appears, that when you export your files, It deletes everything.. Why is that?. You have to restore using your backup.pst

    Check this out, elcajon...

    Lost Contacts after Exporting

I've never heard of such a thing happening before, but I have never used anything beyond Office 2007 yet.

I dont use Outlook, so I was stunned when Brother in law calls and sez everything is gone. Luckily, we just imported the backup.pst again and put everything back. Unfortunately, something called "Notes" were gone. I'm looking bad now. I should have researched this before doing this. According to this site, exporting strips the metadata, i.e. customs views etc.

The correct way of backing up OUtlook is copying the system file associated with Outlook--outlook.pst

The possible fix is to hope that previous versions of outlook.pst exist (shadow files) and restore it
