    Hello,
I have an older high end ACER Aspire 9800.
This baby is BIIIIIG. 20" acer glass monitor More like a desktop that folds up then what most know as a laptop.

Here's the thing...I want to take this apart and replace the motherboard with one that can accept Windows 7 Ulta 64.
Right now it has Windows XP Media center installed and that never worked well to begin with and it will not accept 64 Operating Systems So I can't Upgrade it.

Also...... it came with a lot of unwanted apps and cr*p loaded in the system that I can't seem to get rid of.
Any clues from someone who has done this sort of operation before just where the releases might be on this behemoth?

Before you take it apart - have you found a replacement mobo? I'd guess there aren't any...but I could be wrong.

Have you run the Win 7 compatibly app? Maybe the machine can handle Win 7 32 bit...

    Swift Google...

I do not use Google it has to much Malware that gets loaded when I do..I stick with Dogpile.com thru Firefox.
I will hunt for the manual if it exists.

This mobo does not accept 64bit OS. I tried to update it with my Vistra Home Premium 64 because this laptop has a sticker on it that claims it is up gradeable to Vista But when I tried it refused because my Vista is a 64.

I really don't care if I have to replace everything I like the shell because it is humongus and has a GREAT monitor screen...I took it into a popular Starbucks and everyone who came in was flabbergasted at the size and clarity of the screen. Every single person wanted to know where I got it. About 200 people in an hour period..Really funny.
Once I get it apart I am certain New Egg or Tiger direct can assist me in finding a mobo. the actual casing is as big as a medium size tower area for a mobo. I just need to find out how to open this thing without destroying the integrity of the casing.

    Well,,,,,,,I followed your hyperlink.

First I was prompted to download a Jave update and then I got a message that the file was a clear and present danger to my computer.and was not recommended I install it...I tried to allow it anyway and my antivirus kept locking it out. So I do not know exactly what is going on there...So I am at a bypass for now...Thanks for the help.

I highly doubt you can find a new motherboard that will fit and mount properly in that notebook case. Notebooks tend to be very proprietary and that was even more true with older notebooks. Notebooks are not intended to be upgrades beyond, maybe, adding RAM or if lucky, a different CPU in the same family as the current CPU.

I also think it would be better and cheaper to go for a new laptop instead of trying to upgrade it. As Bill has already said, the laptops are proprietary with very limited upgrade path.

I'm of the opinion it's not the motherboard that won't run an X64 OS it's your CPU it is x86 only not x86-64 can you run CPUz and tell us which CPU your laptop came with please....

If it looks like this:::Intel Core Duo T2500

then that is your problem this is a 32bit x86 CPU only it has no 64 bitness at all
