Have an HP Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, SP2 that has been out of operation since November 2014. When I cranked it up, it found 58 updates. After going through the download and install process twice, got a message that the updates were configured incorrectly and Windows was undoing the process.

Later, it showed one update available (MS .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows Vista (KB2901983)) which installed successfully. Looks like the Office updates installed successfully as well. I am now showing 49 updates available for install. Rather than go through that process again, I thought I might try smaller bites - 5 or 6 updates at a time and see if I could isolate the problem. Any problem with that plan?

Hi Robert. There is no problem with that strategy. I've had to use a similar technique on Windows 8.1 systems as one update failing can cause the entire batch to also fail so installing the updates in small groups at a time will allow you to figure out which update is not playing nice.

I tried three different small groups of 6 or 7 and none of them were successful. I am now running the Microsoft Update Troubleshooter. Just finished and it fixed a couple of problems but said it couldn't fix the update problem. Think I will try to run some singly and see how that goes.

Update before turning in for the night. I am working at it in groups of 3 - anything larger seems to fail. Some of the groups of 3 fail as well. I plan to keep at it tomorrow and get as many as possible successfully installed. Then I will work on the problem updates individually.

That is what I found too. One two or three. I also found one(I do not remember the number) that would not load so I just hid it. Birdwatcher

You can Show Hidden Updates to find the KBxxxxxxxx. Then hide again. Neil.

Sorry I let this one go so long without an update. I couldn't get any more updates to install so I decided to deep six this unit. I may use it to try W10 as soon as I get the important data saved.

    Thanks for all the inputs.
