Would anyone know what the entry 'amreboot' in the Startup programs list is, please? I've searched Google and there's no mention of it there. Here's what it is:

    HKLM:RunOnce amreboot All users

I've searched Google and there's no mention of it there.

    Thanks.

Hi Lugwalker, This seems to be from Youtube. Z31 American car model.
Does it show in > Control Panel > Programs and Features?
MSCONFIG > Startup > disable? Neil.

Yes, it appears in MSconfig>Startup. I've disabled it. I'm just wondering how it got there, because I've certainly not had anything sounding like that on my computer. I never play computer games of any kind.

    Hi Lugwalker.

Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries in your next reply.

What is the full path where the file is starting from?

I've been looking through every tab in Autoruns and can't find any evidence now of amreboot. In 'Startup' in MSCONFIG there's no evidence either.

I've displayed the image below before which shows amreboot, but I can't remember now what on my system I took the screenshot of. In viewing it again, can you tell where I might have been? I'd then see if amreboot is still there. Thanks.

That is a registry entry. Need to see more on the left side to see where it is at. Up a little bit more would do.

In msconfig is the startup selection set to Normal Startup? If so then Autoruns should show the full path of the entry.

If the amreboot entry is highlighted in yellow in Autoruns then that means the file is missing and can be removed safely.

Unfortunately, Evan, amreboot is not in autoruns at all. In msconfig the startup selection is set to 'selective'. Since amreboot is nowhere to be found I reckon that changing it to 'normal' would not show the thread at all in autoruns.

Tony, it's not in scheduled tasks.

Amreboot is nowhere to be found on my system anymore, so I think I need to close this thread.

Thanks everyone for your assistance. Much obliged.

You never did answer the questions asked about where in the Registry you found this. That would shed some more light on the subject.

Actually that is by design since the System Configuration Utility doesn't allow you to remove any startup entries; you can only disable them. If the Startup Selection is set to Selective Startup and you have a startup entry that is disabled then it won't show up in Autoruns. You should set the Startup Selection to Normal and then see if you can find it in Autoruns after doing so.

I've set the Startup Selection to Normal and rebooted. I've searched through Autoruns as Administrator and still can't find any mention of amreboot. It's gone. Perhaps it went when I uninstalled an unwanted program.

Well if its not in the registry or listed in Autoruns then it could have been removed.

Is there anything else that I can help you with?
