8.1 Update doesn't work, Freezes

    My new Surface Pro 3 W/512gb memory is neat, but it does have some problems. When I pull up Update History, window is blank indicating no updates present. Went to MS download and it recomended "KB2919442" tried to download it. Site then advised I must have "KB2919355" so I tried to download "KB2919355 ", when I clicked download it downloaded "KB2919442 ". I didn't notice the switch and tried to install it. Of course It failed. I get no error codes to help identify the problem, only message was "Install Failed"
    Would any one have a list of the KB's I need and the order to install them in.
    All the programs I installed seem to work fine. kinda slow trying to post to Excel with onscreen kb. to lazy to use the Keyboard but that's my problem.

    Hi AirHead. If you open Windows Update and click on Check for Updates, which updates come up as needing to be installed? Can you provide a screenshot showing the list of updates that are ready to be installed?

    I'll try. Might be tomorrow when I get back. Ran the trouble shooter for about 2 hours. No answers so I finally cancelled it.

    Hi Evan
    Me again, when I click on windows update, check for updates, I get a blank window that freezes, only way to get out is go back to start screen. I'm ready to try belarc advisor, might give me a list of updates. What say?

    Hi Evan;
    After clean boot "Firmware update is available....." Over 1gb, as the network that I have to use is very slow this will take an estimated 6 to 8 hours. Should I update in the clean boot mode or try again in normal boot mode? Thank you for your help! GREAT JOB.

    I'm going to download in the clean boot mode and revert to normal boot after download.
    I'll keep you posted as to how it goes. Thanks Again.

    Just a note!
    I was able to download 75 updates. took about 8 hours. I rebooted as requested and quit for the day. Sunday I reset msconfig to normal and checked update, it advises anther 97 important updates. So I will try and download them and see what happens. Find it hard to believe MS would sell a product that was obviously NOT ready for prime time.
    Oh well it's only money, right?

    74 files fAILED. We might as well close this thread, now that my problem accessing Windows Update is solved, THANKS TO YOU! I am thinking my current problems would be best solved with a better internet connection, which I will address shortly. I'll try and let you know by email personally so as not to take up space on BBS. Thanks Again.

    Alright well do you want to troubleshoot this issue further or would you consider this thread resolved then?
