This problem mysteriously disappeared six months ago as was posted in the thread below...

...but for some reason, the problem returned last week.

After running the command powercfg -requests, I nailed the problem down to a Plantronics microphone.

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32> powercfg -requests
    DISPLAY:
    None.

    SYSTEM:
    [DRIVER] Conexant HD Audio (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_50A1&SUBSYS_102804ED&RE
    V_1001\4&19ffb79c&0&0201)
An audio stream is currently in use.

    AWAYMODE:
    None.

The reason the problem disappeared last time was due to accidentally plugging the mic into the wrong port after blowing out my PC. I never needed the mic until last week, so I plugged it into the correct port, but it is keeping the computer awake even though the mic is turned off.

Anyone ever come across an issue like this before? The audio drivers are up to date from what I can tell.

The computer goes to sleep after 30 minutes - as it should.

Not sure why a dead (turned off) mic would keep a PC awake.

I don't recall having this issue with the same mic and XP.

Could you have created a short in the mic after the incident where you blew out your PC. I take it you haven't used the mic since then.

    The mic works fine.

Evidently, this mic has been the cause of my Windows 7 non-sleeping issues ever since I moved it from XP. Maybe I can put it back in XP and see what happens.

Hi James, are the plugs in the back panel of the comps identical?
How to connect Audio and Mic plugs to comp:http://www.sugartreeridge.com/Docs/Connecting.php
This is worth a read as your Mic plug may be Mono. The differences are explained and shown. Mono plug to Stereo or vice versa is shown as well. Neil.

Also found this to test if something is preventing comp from going to sleep:

Is the XP machine the one that got blown out the last time you used it.

I've blown the XP machine out many times, but I don't recall the mic causing sleep issues with XP.
