Right click on screen now fails to open Windows Gadgets. Before error, at start up gadgets opened a Clock, Calendar and Weather icons on monitor screen. Procedure please to enable use of Windows Gadgets.

It happens occasionally . . . no one knows why.

Right-click the Taskbar, select "Task Manager, click the Processes tab, right-click "sidebar.exe" and select "End Process" then click the "End Process" button and close Task Manager.

Now click the Start orb, type gadgets, select the "Desktop Gadget Gallery" and the sidebar should now be loaded. Close the Gadgets window.

I tried first suggestion, that resulted in showing box was ticked. Second suggestion, resulted in error being corrected and now my desktop is again showing the Gadgets selected and working. Thank you, Bobby.

Error is again current. Suggestions given is no longer applicable. I thought it would be best to advise that error was again current.

    Reboot and try again.

If that doesn't work, try using Windows System Restore to roll Windows back to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos.

If that doesn't work either, try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

Thanks for suggestion, it makes no difference. Error I would say is periodically, each power up gives an OK to gadgets other times missing. What I can not understand is why the complete Gadget icon fails to open with the right mouse click when error is current. An after thought, the last factory setting also failed to correct this error. As SpywareDr previously said, it happens, no one knows why.

Do a couple of image backups, do a fresh install of Windows, install all the updates and then test the Gadgets for a week or so. If it is still repeatedly failing, you may have hardware or incompatibility problems that need to be resolved. If it hasn't failed at all, then something you're currently running may be incompatible with Gadgets.

BTW, just in case you haven't heard, Gadgets have been discontinued

So, even if there was some kind of stability bug in Gadgets, Microsoft will never admit, or fix it. . . . "It's dead Jim." :)

After reading your last post, most probably it would be best to block Gadgets in Windows downloads. Is it possible to download a software giving me a clock face for the desktop? Thanks Bobby.

Hi retirelearner, thanks for the suggested clock software. I fancied one under Win7gadgets, that I downloaded and installed into Windows Gadget Library. Icon Nice Clock displays but fails to register correct time. Most of the Clock software fail to download as they are blocked by Malware as dangerous. However, it is probably my computer at fault as a Windows Restore fails to complete due to an error. All other computer functions appear to be working satisfactory. Thanks Bobby.

Why not simply click on the time in the Taskbar - available regardless of which program is open ......

PeteC, I agree, except that I am used to glancing at the desktop when I am working, to check the time, a habit of mine.
