I have a 1GB Verbatim USB stick that I seldom use but did pick it up the other day to see what was on it. It had nothing important but I noticed it would only format to 63mb (FAT32). No matter what I try that is all it will default to. Is there a simple reason for this or should I just toss it?

Why not just "Delete" whatever is on it. It's not normally required to Format a thumbdrive. I've probably got about 15 various capacity thumbdrives from 4GB up to 64GB and never had to Format them. Neil.

I have tried formatting it in various ways but it will not format more than 64mb. There is nothing on the drive to delete.

Hi joe645. Click Start< type Disk Management in the Start search box and hit enter. The Disk Management window will now open. Post a screenshot of the Disk Management window with the USB flash drive inserted in your next reply.

Could be the drive is FUBAR.

I just had Corsair RMA me a 32 GB stick that did the same: only a small portion was left usable.
