I have downloaded and burned the iso to a dvd. I want to install it on a separate partition. My laptop currently is dual boot with win 8.1 and Ubuntu. Does anyone know a step by step to get it to install on a newly created partition and not corrupt the other. I'd rather do it this way rather than a virtual box.

Hi Mark. Consult this guide for installing Windows 10, How to Install Windows 10 on Your PC.

You essentially go through the same process as installing Windows 8 .1 but make sure you install it on a partition that you aren't using.

Unless you can afford to loose your data, you shouldn't be installing it. Not even in a separate partition.

    Arie,
I'll put it on a separate hard drive that I had win 7 on. I have already backed that one up and use a different one with win 8.1. I didn't want to have to physically swap drives in the laptop to play with it (I'm a little lazy)...I guess its better to be safe than sorry.
    Thanks

Cool beans, thanks, I was trying to consider really techie issues, not hardware faults.

Thanks for clearing that up [emoji108]

Why not take the Virtual route ? Much safer.

    Agree.

But you may still lose data no matter you're installing it on a test or a daily machine, unless you say "NO" to turn on the OneDrive. (If you already use OneDrive.)

How a virtual installation is going to affect your data until and unless you specifically allow it to access the environment outside of the sand box ?

Sorry to be so late in responding. I installed Win 10 to VMware and I have no problems with it. Initially it wouldn't take the x64 version. After thinking about why I figured that I should try the 32 bit version as my laptop only has 4gb memory and I needed to share it with the virtual machine and didn't have enough for the 64 bit version...my bad...anyway it works ok with no problems. VMware is the way to go.

You are right - for some reason that option is not present in the Windows 10 forum. I'll mention it to Arie.
