When my desktop computer is resumed from sleep mode I find that the internet connection is lost. However, I can reconnect by clicking about three times on the Network icon on the taskbar. Is there any way that I can stop the internet connection being lost during sleep mode? Two laptops in the house, both Windows 7 like my desktop machine, don't have this problem. Thank you. :)

Look at the advanced power mgmt settings for your network adapter.

    Wireless adapter settings>
    Power saving mode>
    Settings>

    Maximum Performance
    Low power saving
    Medium
    Max

Which of the four above would you recommend?

    Thanks. ;)

Keep that setting as it is already.
Go to Device Manager > rt click the adapter > select Properties > Pwr Mgmt tab > uncheck Allow comp to turn off this device to save power.

Thanks, but it was already un-ticked.

Put a check there now and "allow comp to turn off device... "

Some drivers won't turn the adapter back on after standby if it's unchecked. Intel drivers are known to behave that way. It seems backwards, but some drivers won't operate correctly if that setting is unchecked.

Alas, no joy. I've put a check there now and it makes no difference - check or no check.

Have a look again at Power Options > Change plan settings > Advanced settings...

Thanks. I've made the following change to see if that might work:

    Power Options > advanced settings>high performance> hard disk> turn off>never

I'll report back later this evening on the result.

I'm afraid changing that setting made no difference.

I'll get in touch with the computer manufacturer, Acer, and see if they have any suggestions.

Sorry, folks, all avenues have been explored and even from Acer I've not had any success in resolving the issue. I think perhaps it's something automatic in the computer. What exactly I don't know.

If I ever find out I'll revisit this post again and let you know.

    Thanks for your efforts. :)

Actually, this thread should not have been marked as "Resolved "...the original poster simply gave up on finding a solution.

In that case I'll un-resolve the thread.

I've found a way to prevent the internet connection from disconnecting when my computer goes into sleep.

If I close any browsers and also close my email program before the computer goes into sleep, I find that when I awake the computer that the internet connection has gone.

I now DON'T close my browser OR my email program and find that when I wake my computer from sleep mode that my internet connection is still on.

I'm happy with this though it may only be a workaround. :)
