Recovering from a WinXP SP3 IE8 crash, I lost ability to Copy/Paste, Drag/Drop and cannot access Properties in services nor start RPC, restore and multiple others that are properly listed as automatic.

    tried sfc/scannow no help
grossly files & registry look intact as do permissions
checked msconfig and everything is running
    clean boot didn't help

reluctant to go thru uninstalling IE 8 to revert to IE 6 before using a winxp sp3 disk to repair the installation as I haven't even been able to find a m$ version of ie8 to put back on it, just some adware versions of ie11 with lots of extra garbage installs.

any help will be greatly appreciated as it seems there should be some simpler fix. Thanks!

    Perhaps....

Start/Settings/Taskbar and Start Menu/Start menu/ Classic Start Menu/Customize/Enable dragging and dropping

Hi unixnerd, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :) Barbara-Ann, Easier way > Right click on clear spot on Taskbar > click Properties > Start Menu > Customize > Enable Dragging and Dropping > OK out. Neil.
