    Basically, as the title says.

The TV tuner card needs to be for Freeview - HD isn't a requirement. A reliable and sensibly-priced card will do the trick perfectly. Note I'm not looking for a USB-based device unless that route is significantly cheaper, due to the likelyhood of me damaging such a device.

The video capture card, ideally, needs to be able to capture video direct from my computer, and to be able to take composite, component and VGA video (HDMI would be nice, but probably isn't going to be necessary), recording at up to 720p/1024x768 with good quality - note I'd rather have a high-quality but lower resolution than a high resolution with weak quality.

These can be either PCI-E or PCI, I'm not bothered which, and the price doesn't matter too much, although I wouldn't want to spend more than £80-100 on either individual item (I am willing to import, if that's an appropriate route). Any suggestions?

Since this is a hardware device, having the proper drivers for your operating systems is essential. But sadly, you did not tell us what OS you are using (version and 32 or 64-bit).

And a "tuner" indicates a device that receives radio signals - from a TV antenna or RF (coaxial) cable feed. If you live in England where they use PAL and import a tuner card from the US, it will support NTSC. It won't work. So you need to be more specific in what you want.

Finally, be sure your power supply is able to meet the demands of any new hardware you install.

I really should've pointed out that it's for the computer in the My System tab - and I've got more than enough juice in this unit (plus it's possible I'll have even more when I get this sorted). I do live in the UK, yes, and I'm aware of the NTSC/PAL issues - although why I didn't think that bit through is beyond me. You're correct about what I want the tuner to do - receive coax signals from an aerial, not satellite cards (which I saw plenty of).

The tuner needs to be able to either work 100% with Windows Media Centre, or have good quality software of its own. The capture card needs good software of its own. I've seen a lot of criticism levelled at Hauppauge for poor software, but it's old criticism - is this still the case?
