Is there a way I can make my pc (windows xp pro with SP2) create a system restore point at a certain time every day, and whenever I boot up?

I would ideally like to automatically create a restore point on boot up plus at 9.30 am in case I didn't turn my pc off overnight.

I can't find anything in mshelp or microsofts knowledge base or search in windowsbbs.

Thanks for any help with this.
    Brian.

You only need a new restore point if you make some sort of change to the system. Also, Windows will automatically make a restore point when you install new software...

You can change the interval between system restore points :-

Start, Run, type regedit and navigate to registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore.

In RPGlobalInterval it is set to 86400 (seconds) which represents 24 hours. Change it accordingly.

Steve is right. But it does not always happen that way.

SR is SUPPOSED to make a RP before installing software. But sometimes it does and sometimes it does not.

I have seen SR make no RP on its own for 2-3 days. Then another time it made TWO in one day. ????

The best suggestion I can make is to MANUALLY check to be sure you have an uptodate RP BEFORE doing anything.

To the best of my knowledge manually checking is the only way you can be sure anyway.

    Hello Brian,

As far as I know, SR is not configurable in that way. BurrWalnut gave you a way to change the interval - shortened or lengthened, but that's it.

There is also this VB script from Doug Knox - 'VB Script to run unattended Restore Point Creation as a Scheduled Task'. This may be the better bet :)
