Very recent problem with XP SP2 - when I boot I get a message that my network drives didn't reconnect. I have a 2 PC LAN at home with XP on both PCs and a Linksys router/switch connecting the two. No problems for the several years it's been set up.

When I click on one of the mapped (disconnected) drives I get the pictured message about server storage. The few references I found that seemed to sorta fit my situation pointed to possible pagefile issues and it does look like I may have some sort of strange problem there too. My initial efforts to change the size or location (it was split between two drives) did nothing. For instance, with a 1000Mb pagefile (approximately), setting it to 2Mb max and min and rebooting and the same size file I started with showed up again. Setting to no page file, rebooting, and the original size pagefile showed up again. I finally used MoveOnBoot to get rid of it and that appreared to work but no improvement.

I'm running 1Gb of physical memory and am set not to write any debugging information in the event of a system failure/crash (see the 2nd picture) but at every reboot I get the following event
Considering that my pagefile is on C:\ along with the OS and is set at 2Gb, I'm not sure what that error is trying to say but it surely looks like the pagefile isn't being built correctly.

The only recent system change I can remember is installing the beta of the Microsoft Giant product.

    Have you seen this:

Antivirus software may cause Event ID 2011
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;177078

    SYMPTOMS

After you install Norton AntiVirus for Windows or IBM AntiVirus 3.01N (Build 301.590), you receive the following error messages:

Not enough server storage is available to process this command.

I agree with steve's recommendation. Try tweaking IrpStackSize to be a little bigger.

As far as the other error, Your page file needs to be a little larger(10%ish) than your physical memory and on your boot partition. Are you sure your 'c' drive is your boot partition?

Thanks guys. I'll try the tweak.

And LOL @ myself. Joe, you nailed it. My system partition is not on the OS drive like I thought it was.

Note that I'm pretty sure that the new Antispyware beta stuff is involved here. I haven't run Norton since I reloaded this PC, never used the IBM stuff, and have been happily chugging along with AVG for AV protection for about a year now.

If thats what it is (irpstacksize), Ill show you how to prove it in the debugger. I honestly havent looked to see how the beta uses filter drivers. It would be a worthwhile exercise, take about 30 minutes.

IRPStackSize is now at the maximum of 50 decimal. No help.

I removed the original mapping and tried a new one after incrementing IRPStackSize from 15 up to 50. Results attached.

Ben - I'm game for just about anything. Sitting at home this entire week recovering from surgery and I feel great so going a little stir crazy.

BTW - not sure if it's related but as noted in This security thread, I've had episodic problems with gcasServ.exe and since the file shows itself as a Giant product, I'm assuming it is part of the new Antispyware stuff.

Are you connecting/mapping to the Root of C?
Have you tried mapping to a shared non-system folder?

Tried setting up a wide open, normal folder share. Same results.

Wife's PC can connect to mine just fine. I can see hers via net view but just can't connect to any drive-share resources.

I even went thru and reset account passwords just to make sure there wasn't a security issue of some sort with them.

I also shared a printer on her PC and was able to install it on my PC and print a test page.

Where is this error coming from, the client (newt) or the server (jan)? If you take a network trace, do you see it trying to connect? Is the error you get from the TREE CONNECT & X?

Since you already tweaked the snot out of your client machine (50 is too high, turn that down to 15-20), ill bet that you see it on the wire, and \\jan is throwing the error. What happens if you irpstacksize jan?

Thanks Ben. All cured now and I do appreciate your time.

Note for thread closure - Steve/Joe, the article you cited was right on point but the PC that needed the reg tweak was my wifes. It seemed to be working fine and could connect to mine but was running out of resources trying to allow mine to connect to a share. Her IRPStackSize was set at 11 and bumping it up to the XP default of 15 did the trick.
