TI 4n1 Card Reader wont read Memorysticks

I have a TI 4n1 card reader that is built into my HP laptop. When you go to plug in a memorystick, the reader will not read the stick. It will read SecureDigital cards, however.

I have installed the newest drivers and still nothing.

Here's the kicker. I took a spare HD and loaded XP onto it fresh. It reads no problem.

I dont want to re-install XP to get this card reader to work.

Any help appreicated.

 

Try from a run line

and see if that clears things up.

 

I ran sfc, and it didn't report anything.

Any other ideas? I would really hate to have to reload windows just to get this card reader working.....

 

Are there any errors when it fails or any clues in your event logs? Also, that is the only place you could see details on what file changes, if any, sfc made.

 

Not really. When I plug the module in, it gives me the "Device failed to connect" sound (I have a Star Trek error message that plays). The memory stick has a light on it when it is being accessed, and there is a light for the 4n1 reader.

When you insert the stick, the 4n1 light comes on and the MS light comes on for a second. THe Device failed wav plays, and the 4n1 light goes out, but the MS light continues to flash like it's being accessed for a few more seconds.

I thought it might have had something to do with Media Player 10, so I uninstalled it.. no luck. My event log is packed to the rafters with entried, so I am going to dump it and try putting the MS in to see what it trips.

I checked my event log.. nothing flags.

 

Here is a little update to my problem i have been having. I reinstalled windows and was able to get the 4n1 reader back. No problems. However, I picked up a virus and had to once again reload windows. I reinstalled, loaded all the drivers, and started to reinstall all my programs. I checked after each program was loaded to see if the reader still worked, and it did, until I installed DirectX 9. After that, I lost the reader.

Any help?

On my test drive, where i have a clean install of XP installed, I reinstalled, and then installed directx 9. I inserted the memory stick, and was greeted with the new hardware wizard. It said it was looking for the drivers, and then comes up and tells me "This driver is not intended for this platform." That is what is confusing me now... Bad thing is, there is no way to go back to the previous version of DirectX.... (I dont have system restore enabled on this system.)
