    When starting my computer it brought up a blue screen with UNMOUTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME.
    I tried restarting and booting in safe mode, but just jumps back to the blue screen.
    Can anyone help.

    Welcome to the BBS!

    Check all the settings in your BIOS for proper values. Check your CMOS battery and replace if needed. Reset BIOS to default values. Check your data cables to the boot drive. Download and run the diagnostic disk from the HD manufacturer.

    If you get lucky, it'll be something simple. If not, it could be a failed HD.

    Try booting from this "generic" XP boot floppy. If it works, one of your boot files is corrupt or absent:

    XP Sysboot:

    http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/xpprobt.exe (bootable floppy)
    http://users.adelphia.net/~abraxas/dl/xpprobt.iso (bootable CD image)

    You can use this program to make a boot floppy from which you can edit your boot.ini file:

    http://users.adelphia.net/~abraxas/dl/BootIniEdit.exe

    The default looks like this:

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    (No space after the last w in Windows.)
