I upgraded to 7.2 from 7.1 and all my bookmarks and ALL my email for the last 6 mos. are GONE........???

I'm running WinXP SP1, and Netscape had been working OK. I'm using a POP3 account, and have liked the Netscape mail client .... but now my previous inbox and all the subfolders I had set up are nowhere to be found!

I DID NOT see any "profile migration" screens when installing the 7.2 upgrade, and just assumed it would naturally pick up all my settings and saved messages, bookmarks, etc., from my previous version ....

How can I restore my bookmarks and email? I tried using WinXP System Restore to an earlier point, and although it brought back Netscape 7.1, still no email, etc!

I'm the only user on the PC - ie, no other user accounts, profiles, etc. should have gotten in the way of anything ...

I have only one *.slt file on my system ...

I’ve also noticed that my new Netscape isn’t saving any new bookmarks, either. I also added a couple of Google buttons to my personal toolbar, and when I restarted Netscape they were gone too.

I’ve ALSO found that I now have over 4000 (not a typo) bookmark files in my SLT folder! They are all 18kb in size. They are named bookmarks-1.html, bookmarks-2.html, etc., up to bookmarks-4081.html.

These are in addition to the one bookmarks.html.

    What is going on!!!???

please, please, please, somebody ... HELP !!!!!!!!

    thanks,

    paul

    Welcome to the Forum, paulpause!

    Hi Paul,

Did you install 7.2 over 7.1?

If you have a backup of your prefs.js file, then:
    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
    Open Windows Explorer
Navigate to your salted (*.slt) Folder

Rename the existing prefs.js file to BADprefs.js
Copy the backup copy of the prefs.js files to the salted (*.slt) folder
    This should resolve the problem.

That is correct. If you uninstalled Netscape 7.1 correctly, then installed 7.2, it would have picked up the current Profile in your Profiles folder, located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

    Uninstall Netscape 7.1 using Add/Remove
Delete the GRE folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE

Delete the Netscape folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape

    Reboot Your PC

    Install Netscape 7.2

Is this how you did it?

If you have no backup of your Profiles folder, salted, folder, Mail, etc., then you will have to create a new Profile and start again.

Look in Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Cache
Does the Cache Folder Target Field point to the salted folder you found?

Give me as much info as possible, and we can go from there. I need an answer to each of the questions I asked in order to determine exactly what has happened. The growth of Bookmarks is usually related to sharing a Profile, or installing over an existing Version.

    Ramona
