    Happened in my newly-home-made AMD, w/ XP Pro SP1, and (probably,) after I switched to "static" from dynamic. (One other, I might need to mention here is my Outlook Express "Outgoing" notes get <550 Error:0x800CCC79; Local host not a gateway>; I do get in-coming's OK.)

    Tried "many" mentioned in forums, and support pages; However, so far, I've been unable to resolve this.

    I completely uninstalled Firewalls (McAfee/Zone Alarm) AND the McAfee Antivirus, including the registry residues; Did not make these two above mentioned probs go away.

    Tried to reset my router several times; That, too, did not work.

    About Netscape 7.0, I installed/uninstalled, using a set-up CD, it had been working during 10's of installations; I take windows off my drives often, so the high figure there. I also tried Netscape 7.1 starter.exe (came as a setup.exe, about 650KB); It made a path, via which my connection failed. I can get to Netscape pages through "other" browsers, such as IE 6.0, Opera 7.23, Mozilla 1.6. But, even after I played w/ its browser's profile setup, Netscape 7.0, "stubbornly" refuses to make internet connection.

    What am I facing at? I'm so dumb I NEED your help! TIA,

    Kid

    Welcome to the Forum, Kid!

    Hi Kid,

    A few questions:

    In the Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Proxies
    Have you selected "Direct connection to the Internet "?
    Are you saying that you also get an error with IE?

    Thanks, Ramona, for ya attention.

    And, "Hi! "

    Yes, ma'am, I left the Proxy setting of the Netscape 7.0, as "Direct... "

    Any other browsers I have in my latest 'puter go in/out OK; However, a part of the IE, the "Outlook Express 6.0," refuses OUT-GOING, ONLY.

    I don't use Netscape Mail/Message Accounts; No web mail account configurations are set in my browsers' preferences.

    Hope, I'm answering fair enough; Thanks,

    Kid

    Kid,

    See if this Netscape Tip from Holger Metzger helps :

    Windows 2000/XP: Autodialing

    In Windows 2000/XP the autodialing process is different from Win9x. In Win9x autodialing was set in
    Control Panel --> Internet Options --> Connections, but it's different in Windows 2000/XP.

    To force automatic dialing when a program such as Netscape requires a TCP/IP connection do the following:
    In Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services, look for the following services:

    * Remote Access Connection Manager
    * Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
    * Telephony

    Set all those services to automatic. Now you can even set "Never dial a connection" in Internet options, the dial out process is independant to this option. You will notice that the interface for dialing out is different than the standard IE interface.

    For DSL:
    Disable TCP/IP for the DSL network card, since it only serves as a virtual modem for the DSL connection. If you have a LAN connected to your PC be careful not to deactivate TCP/IP for the local area network: If you have DSL and LAN you should have two network cards in your PC, one is for the DSL, the other for the LAN, so make sure you deactivate TCP/IP for the right card (the DSL card, for example "LAN Connection 1" or "LAN connection 2 ").
    Newest thing people can try is to add the following line to user.js/prefs.js:

    pref( "network.autodial-helper.enabled ", true);

    The Local Services' changes to "automatic" yielded...

    No noticable difference; Thanks anyway, nonetheless,

    F'got to tell ya "one more" thing...

    My DSL server tech told me, over the phone, that my Outlook Express was corrupted so that I'd have to uninstall the "Express" and reinstall it; (The Express is a part of "#$%@" IE which I just did bunch of touch-ups I wouldn't want to do the same for "awhile "; Then, and thus, I tried to send a "test" note to my own addy, from my addy in my "Express. "

    It went through.

    From attempts sending notes to other addresses, I got pre' much the same Error messages: <...One of the recipients was rejected by the server...; Server Response: "550 local host... not a gateway ". Port: 25. Secure (SSL): No. Server Error: 550. Error Number:0x800CCC79.> Something like that,

    (Thanks again,)

    My NS 7.02 flies OK now.

    As I mentioned at < http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=30726 > I installed Netscape 7.02; It kept refusing to connect; I fought w/ my router config. I got into the NS set-up page w/ Mozilla 1.6, then w/ IE 6.0, which with my new Netscape 7.02 did not make it first. My traffic indicater showed outgoing, but no return back for... a long time. I got impatient. I used trace, ping the addy. Kept pinging. All of a sudden, the Netscape brought the "registration" wizard. Finished with my old screen name and the same passy; And, hey you know what, amazing... because I don't understand why it went this way, and finally went through... my Netscape now functions "just" fine.

    Thanks,

    Kid
