When I start my computer I get the following message" a requierd .dll file hotres32.dll was not founnd." I think this file has something to do with the free efax and eafx messenger I deleted. How can I get rid of this message. I have looked all over and can find no trace of the efax left in the system. It just enoying that I have to see this all the time I start up. I even looked in the registry for it but no luck. It doesn't seem to effect this system any just the pop up error message is bothersome.
Any way to delete this error message from coming up again.
    Thanks
    Peter

    What OS?

Goto start > run and type msconfig. Anything about it in the startup section? If so, uncheck it and reboot.

It has to be somewhere. Let's look at a few places manually:

First browse to your Startup folder and see what shortcuts are in there. Start > Programs > Startup

Next, check another startup folder normally located at C:\Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (yes, it is different than the first one above)

Now check in the registry at the following places:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce]

    Regcleaner
The file is being called from another key in your registry. Download the program from the above link. Install then open it. When it opens you will see a listing of all software on your machine, some you have already uninstalled. After you remove any items you know for sure have been uninstalled, go to the toolbar at Tools\Registry Cleaner\Do Them All. This program makes a backup of everything removed.
This should do it for you.

    required hotres32.dll

I have done all that has been requestedand even downloaded a regisrty first aid kit. The kit found 3 hotres32.dll invalid entries. I deleted them all rebooted and still got the error message. I am bewildered. I cant figure out why this file is even being called up.
    Still confused

Use Notepad and open the C:\Windows\System.Ini file and see if it is listed in there.

    This is a longshot, but..

Open up your win.ini file in Notepad and look for any run= or load= lines and see if it's listed there.

Try this too: (forgot about this one)

Go to this site and download StartUp Log.

This will create a text file that will list all the startup programs on your PC, along with the location they're being called from. It's mainly designed for trojans/viruses, but it is also very handy for times like these.

One last thing for the night..

How sure are you? Are you possibly overlooking the real program causing this message?
