    Hello eskimo and welcome,

A couple of problems since installing SP2, hangs on shutdown? have to shut down by holding in the start button for 5 or 10 seconds

A reference for shutdown trouble shooting http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm it does sound like you may need updated drivers. Any messages?

also Service center will not let me configure the windows "automatic updates" have changed the settings to allow automatic updates, but service center keeps telling me that auto update is not configured

Make sure that XP's Auto Update service is running: start > run > type services.msc > ok. In the services page, Automatic Updates: the startup type should be Automatic. If not, double click on the line, in the dialog box change startup type to Automatic > apply.

    Regards - Charles

    Re; Shut Probs

    Hi charlesvar

Thanks for the web link for the shutdown problem sorted out "Cheers "

As for the auto update did what you said in service.msc, it was already set to auto, but still will not let me configure the update in the sevice center, when i go directly to Microsofts update site, the page appears but does nothing and does not scan my system, have turned of my firewall (zone alarm) just in case it was that but to no avail

    Cheers, eskimo
