My Lacie external hard drive has gone wrong, Lacie have said they will replace it but I will lose the data on it. I'm running on XP and the icon does not appear for the drive. Is there any software I can get to rescue the data from the drive?

    Thanks

There are several good free data recovery software, most require that the drive be recognized by the operating system:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html

Another option is to boot using a Linux Live CD. (runs entirely in ram and does not use your hard drives at all) Sometimes linux can recognize a drive when windows can't. Once the drive is found, files can be copied or burned to a cd:

I have used Active File Recovery with good luck. They have a trial on their site. You could install that and see if it will pick up your drive. If so, buy it and transfer what you need. When my drive was dying, it was able to see the drive and save my butt. Give the trial a try, you have nothing to lose.
