    Hey Everybody,

I thought this might be fun so here goes. If everybody posted their favorite freeware we could compare and explore more software. I'm always looking for good freeware.

    SpywareBlaster

My favourite is SpywareBlaster it can be found Here along with all the details, and the best Freeware site has to be Nonags it tests all the software and give a rating from 1 to 6 well worth a look.
A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

I like RegCleaner which is still available for free but probably not for much longer.

The longer you use it, the more you appreciate the various features it has. I don't suggest that Registry cleaning is productive and I rarely do it but the other features of this little gem are very handy indeed. It backs up your moves so missteps (who does those?) are easily corrected.

    UltraPlayer

Here's one I've been using for awhile. I like the way you can just double click on the *.mp3 files and it adds them to the list to be played. Also you can set it up to run in the tray.

Has anyone used WinAmp Lite? I need something small that doesn't eat resources and am curious about it.

    Hi again Rockit,
I'm so sorry :(. I think I threw a monkey wrench into this topic by tacking my previous thread in here. The lists in that thread a quite lengthy and the three or four sublinks, as offered by Daizy, Johanna and a few others even supply more "Favorites" and "Goodies" to look into. These also will have sublinks in them, which probably have sublinks in them, hense suferdudes comment ;) .

I don't think it's lack of interest in the topic that's keeping the list sparse but redundancy. I just didn't want you to think this topic bombed or that you were being ignored.

    Ann,
I don't think you bombed the post. I looked thru the links you provided and there is some good stuff. The thing is .. there's allot of NEW freeware since that post. Maybe I would have been better off just posting for ANY Software and not just freeware. I'm just a software junkie and am constantly looking for new, old, improved software that I may have missed. I found a few of my current favorites after returning to this board after a few years of being away.

    Example: GiPo@MoveOnBoot http://www.gibinsoft.net/

I know there are more, just gota fiqure out how to get the Geeks to share their sources.

Some of mine are borderline dangerous (like me) and I hate to get anyone into trouble...

I like PTedit32 for its power to easily hide or unhide partitions. It's not too dangerous. You can even repair your MBR if you're hot enough.

    PowerMenu

This one is pretty cool for putting outlook express or anything else in the system tray.

Fred Langa had a big section on "mostly free" software in his 11-29 Newsletter http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2004/2004-11-29.htm

I'm downloading one of them at the moment: InstallWatch - for monitoring changes made during software installs. Have one already called TotalUninstall. Will be interesting to compare the two.

    Hi Charles,
You seem like you have made a habit of doing installs with these observing the changes. Do these monitor any additions or changes made to registry (record hkeys added, specifically)? I'm most interested if any have interfered with a successful install or caused any registry problems while monitoring. I have been interested in these things, for regedit purposes, but have not put to much effort in experimenting. Still haven't forgotten old experiences with "Cleansweep" and it's component that would do this. It often caused more problems then it helped.

I know I can do the old registry compare thing using any of the various applications I have stored away on here somewhere. I tend to a bit lazy and that method often takes more effort than I care to put into it. Snapshot before....snapshot after...open in app... blah blah. To much trouble for a routine but still useful on occasion when the need or curiousity arises. Guess I'm just looking for a "click and go ".

    Hi Ann,

What you do is install thru them and they document the before and after. The only problem I've encountered is if a install re-boots in the middle. Then the before is lost and the after is never done. No harm done though, it's as if you did a normal install. Never encountered any interference problems.

The description of InstallWatch matches what TotalUninstall does - attachment below. There is a lot more of the before/after - I'm only showing the beginning of the registry portion.

Do have a old program called Inctrl5 that is a "manual" process which sounds a lot like Snapshot before....snapshot after...open in app... blah blah. To much trouble for a routine but still useful on occasion when the need or curiousity arises

    Regards - Charles
