    Hi,

I am running Mozilla 1.4 and in a previous post Ramona gave some directions on new config settings. A while back i was useing NS 7.1 and remember having to make a user.js file

If I understand right there is no need for the user.js file and all changes need to be made to the prefs.js file and If want to change my setting I can just go to about:config make my change there and apon exit of browser the change will be written to prefs.js? and be permanant till I decide to change again in config?

    Regards,
    FireDancer ;)

    Hi FireDancer,

The user.js can still be useful, but in this instance, I suggest using about:config.

What you should do first, is remove the setting that you added to your user.js file. Do this BEFORE adding the memCache Value to about:config.

Then back up the prefs.js file.

    FireDancer,

    Go to this page:
    http://www.mozillazine.org/misc/

    Click on "about:config "

This will take you to a page with screen shots of How To Modify and Add Hidden Preferences Using about:config.

    Ramona,

    Hi,

What I did was... I backed up prefs.js then went to about:config and added the new string like you advised
in previous post. The change shows up in prefs.js and in config. I also made a user.js file but have not used it yet it is still blank at this time. my mem capacity is currently 2048
and working good for me. If I understand you right if I ever want to change that mem capacity all I need to do is go to
about:config and change setting there, and it will automaticlly
write to the prefs.js file.. correct?

    Regards,
    FireDancer :D
