I inadvertently said yes when asked if I wanted to "always open this type file with" a specific application. Now all PDF files want to be installed to the memory card on my PDA instead of opened by adobe reader. How do I reverse this inadvertent preference?

Did you forget about searching window-help.net's archive of past posts?

*Do a file find for *.pdf anyone will do.
*Highlight it and right click on it.
*There should be an option selection named "Open with ", select it, (reguardless, this option would show up if you click on the file to highlight it, press and hold the shift keyboard key, and right click on the file)
*Put a check in the circle named "always use this program ***etc" (found somewhat at the bottom of the "open with box/popup/pane ", ust below the list.
*In the list of programs to use to open this file with select "acrobat ". If acrobat is not in the list already, you will have to browse your way to it.

I suggest ^the above^ procedure as it fairly easy and quick to do, however, I will add a couple more methods (below) just in case you find another method more preferable.

    -----Alternatives--------
    1]
*From any open Explorer window, select Tools> Folder Options.
*In the resulting dialog box, click the FileTypes tab,
*then scroll down the list of registered file types and select the file extension that you wish to change. (In your case pdf)
*Click the Change button, select your application then click OK. (In your casr case acrobat(=acrord32.exe). You may haveto browse to acrord32.exe.
    Mine is located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\acord32.exe.
*Then, close the Folder Options window. (You may have to okay and apply your way out.)
*The next time you double-click that file type, it will open in the chosen application.

2]If you are using acrobat reader 6, it has a "detect and repair" self healing feature accessible via the toolbar within the program itsself. Perhaps this will also reassociate pdf with acrobat. If not the above will.

    Thanks

I thought I had exhausted my search before I posted, maybe my terminology was faulty.

Right mouse click on PDF file doesn't produce an "open with" window, only "open" which goes to the same installer function. However, the "detect and repair" function in Adobe worked. Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear that you resolved it.

"regardless, this option would show up if you click on the file to highlight it, press and hold the shift keyboard key, and right click on the file "

The subtle key is to hold the Shift down, then the Open With appears.
