    z4u, Welcome to BBS.
    Right click a .bmp file and choose "Open with "
    Choose an app with which you want to open the file.
    Check "Always use this program to open this type of file "
    Click "OK "
    Do the same for .gif , .jpg etc
    regards

    PS If, on the right click menu, you do not have "Open with "
    - post back here on this thread.

    In addition to what merlin said:

    Could you explain that in more detail? I don't understand what you are trying to say.

    Are you having a problem opening ANY jpg gif or bmp file on your computer? What exactly happens when you double-click one of these files? What program opens?

    Irfanview can open these file types and more. Do you still have Irfanview installed? Open IrfanView to re-associate or UN-associate different file exptensions with Irfanview, by checking or unchecking the boxes next to the file extension in Options, Properties, Extensions.

    This is from Irfanview Help:
    ============copy paste=================
    Click on the Options Menu, then Properties. If the Extensions section is not showing, click its tab at the top of the box.

    Here you choose which file types will be automatically associated with IrfanView. (snip) Click any of the check-boxes next to files you want to associate. If you want them all, click Select all. Clear all removes all associations.
    ===============end c/p================

    JPG and GIF files are usually associiated with Iexplore (Internet Explorer). Bmp is usually associated with mspaint. One way to reassociate BMP files with MSPAINT, and JPG or GIF files with IEXPLORE (Internet Explorer):

    Using Windows Explorer, find any JPG file and click it ONCE so that it is highlighted, then hold down the SHIFT key and RIGHT-click it, select Open With, then choose iexplore and check the box to "always Use ":

    1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to the .JPG file you want to open.
    2. Click (once) on it to highlight/select it.
    3. Press and hold the SHIFT key while you RIGHT-Click on the file.
    4. Click the OPEN WITH option on the menu that appears.
    5. Choose the program you want to open the file with from the Open With list. In this case, iexplore (Internet explorer).
    6. Check the "ALWAYS USE..." and Click Open.
    7. From this point on, all those .JPG files will open with MS Internet Explorer.

    (same for gif)

    For bmp, you would select any bmp file and choose MSPAINT (if mspaint isn't in the list, chose "other" and browse to C:\Progam Files\Accessories\mspaint.exe).

    You said you uninstalled Irfanview, if I understand correctly, and that nothing happens when you double-click any bmp jpg or gif....

    What EXACTLY happens when you double-click a jpg file, for example? Nothing at all? Or does a box open asking you to pick a program?

    Did you try steps 1 - 7 that I posted above? That should give you an "Open With" box, and let you pick IEXPLORE to open JPG and GIF, or MSPAINT to open Bmp files, and check the box to "always use" that program for those file types.

    Click (once) on the file to highlight/select it. Then press and hold the SHIFT key while you RIGHT-Click on the file. The menu that comes up should contain "Open With ".

    Also try the ImageFix.reg download I recommended in my reply to your other post since it may be related.

    When you removed IrfanView, did you Uninstall it or just
    deleted the folder ?

    Here's an MS KB article that may enable you to get the
    "Open with" option back ...

    KB218805
