Character Encoding

    Does anyone know how does one set Character Encoding to Auto. Mine is set (off). Thanks

    I better not make any test changes when I try to reply, because my reply will be wiped out. I have set Western (ISO-8859-1), but also Russian in Autodetect.
    That should mean that I will use Western, but will also detect Russian. There is no way to autodetect any old character, if have that in mind.

    When you are in the page which you wish to change the character encoding, click on View | Character Encoding, Select: Auto-Detect.

    That is the problem. I can not. My auto detect os OFF. How do I activate it?

    Unfortunately, I can change any way I want. And, interestingly, if I start a response, and don't send it, making a change, I get a blank screen.
    I dread to think of what I will see after sending this.

    The default setting for Firefox Auto-Detect is "Off ", however, Auto-Detect, is in fact enabled. In other words, there is no setting for Auto-Detect "On ". There are discussions on how confusing the View | Character Encoding settings are. Here are links, if you are interested in some reading about Character Encoding:
