Getting started using Hijack

OK, I've run Adaware 6 pro and Spybot. Now I want to start with Hijack, and I want to make sure I'm going about it the right way.

I went to the Merijn site, and found Hijack and Startup List. One of the links says Startup List is included within Hijack, but that's not clear from the Merjin site. True?

Then I found the Hijack tutorial on http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html. Looks a little intimidating, so I want to make sure I'm going about it correctly. Download and run Hijack, and follow tutorial?

Also, the tutorial makes reference to a file that's helpful for identifying autoloading programs in the INI files, but when I click on that link, Pacman's Startup List, http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php, I get an error message. Does anybody have a copy of the list?

There are a few other tutorials out there to.

But Please even us DUC semi pros post our logs for review when things go wrong, even if you are proficaint with a pc when there are problems its very easy to make them worse when we are personaly invoved.

Files that load from ini are dangerous to fix with hijackthis, meaning if you fix a good F0, F1, F2, F3 - Autoloading programs from INI files
they cant be restored More info

sysinfo has had probems that site net-integration, spywareinfo and several other help sites have been getting Ddos attacked, so they are down from time to time, there are other resouces when its down, But always search a leading Antispyware site to make sure of your findings, double and triple check everything

I ran Hijack this and saved the log. Printed it out and made notations for myself. I then sent it into the Tom Coyote site; waiting to hear back.

So far, so good.

 

I don't think Tom has time to Analise logs through email
Nor does anyone I know , hijackthis was created so folks can post there logs in forums to be analyzed by experts.

BTW, while surfing around, I found a utility from PC magazine, Start Up Cop Pro, http://forums.tomcoyote.com/index.php?

Apparently, the pro vesion not only lists the programs running, but also lists their origins; they say it contains most everything that's on the Pacman page (which they reference in the article). Seem's like its the way I'll go, unless someone has had a bad experience.
