Does anyone use WOT? If so, what do you think about it?

I use it in Google Chrome, and I think it's great. It helps especially when you're searching for something and if you see anything but a green ring next to a search result, STAY AWAY! If you're considering using it, I would definitely go for it.

I installed it into SRWare Iron yesterday. I'm quite impressed.

I use WOT along with Sandboxie, Avast, and Superspyware Blaster.
I like the extra protection on the front side with WOT and SandBoxie on the backside so yes I like WOT.

I used WOT on Firefox and started having problems with pages loading. Didnt regedter with me that WOT was the problem.

I went back to IE8 and the problem was stopped. Loaded the WOT addon for IE8 and the problem started again.

Went back to Firefox removed WOT and everything was back to normal.

    That's my experience with it.

I haven't used WOT simply because I use Mcafee Siteadvisor which does the same exact thing. Although I don't use it, I visit the WOT website to look up site reports of websites that haven't been entered in Mcafees database yet.

Wow, that's weird. My brother uses Firefox exclusively (with WOT) and hasn't had any problems. I wonder why you were having problems.

I wish I knew. I really liked it, and if the same thing hadn't happened in IE8 I wouldnt have suspected WOT.

I'll probably try again. It's a great program.

Have you uninstalled it and installed new(to me) WOT download?
I had same problem and after downloading it screen came up with 3 methods of installing it with IE8 or FireFox. 2 had to do with Tools and internet option and the last with toolbar and enabling WOT
The last 2 methods finally were the key for me and now I have no problem with WOT.
Might be worth a try anyway.
    Best of Luck

I have McAfee as my AV so I have Site Advisor. The plug-in only really works for IE & Firefox though. I use WOT on SRWare Iron. However, I have discovered a Google plug-in for the freeware Site Advisor for Chromium based browsers (Google Chrome/SRWare Iron etc) but I am sticking with just using WOT in Iron.

I tried Chrome. To me it was very un-user friendly. It was fast but lacked a lot of features.

So I reinstalled Firefox decided to give WOT another chance. I first decided to read some reviews and this was the first one:

So I decided to keep it off and now Firefox is back to normal.

    Just a FYI

    Hey RainDog,
Thanks for the update and reviews on WOT. Maybe that's why searching was somewhat slower than norm.
    Have a great day.

I've never had a problem with WOT itself but am now curious about

Actually I'd question virtually all of Rain dogs post. EDIT: I monitor internet traffic via my firewall and haven't seen any of those issues, perhaps Rain Dog can help me improve my security.

Is there any evidence of this other than word of mouth?

There are 523 reviews at the Firefox app site. I just read the first one. I decided not to use WOT again, it most definitely slows down, slows way down on my browsing.

Thats my experience. I wish it did work for me.

Perhaps a link to the review will help?

I can state that the review you posted is very economical with the truth ;)

RD no one is forcing you to use WOT or any other tool but please try to support such a damning post with some evidence ;)

Did I complain that someone was forcing me to use it? You should take a different tone, I'm not the one who wrote the review.

I said it was on the Firefox app site, as ****** off as you sound you should have been able to find it yourself. Here I'll hold your hand and lead to to it:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3456#reviews

I will not read the 524 reviews for you. You ought to be able to at least do that.

    Rain Dog,

I wasn't in the least annoyed nor aggrieved with your post, and yes I can easily find the review for myself.

However, there are a variety of users on this board and any assistance (however minor you see it) you provide could help others.

No need to hold my hand, but please think of others reading. ;)

@ Rain Dog, thanks that's a very interesting post.

    1. Threatened privacy: Are you aware that every site you ever visit is sent to the central WOT server, logged, saved and this information is possibly/probably sold to one of the many companies WOT has contracts with?

I was aware that this is a possibility. After all, it is a freeware application, I suppose they need to turnover a profit.

    2. Missing reliability: Meanwhile here are lots of reports confirming that a great number completely legitimate harmless sites are rated badly - and poor reputations for so many of my most reliable sites. Wondering about it?
Remember any user can rate a site and there are a lot out there who rate a site at good will or just for fun, maybe because of the color used. I even found some malware sites rated fairly good.

This can be problematical. I have been comparing it with McAfee's Site Advisor. It is a bit early for me to make any comparitive comments. I have noticed that STOPzilla has been given a red rating by WOT, whereas McAfee green-lights it but there are some rather derogatory remarks about the product by users of Site Advisor. As far as I know WOT use Bayesian algorithms in their calculations about sites. I'm not sure of the efficacy of this practise though.

    3. Bad web experience: The addon actively adds advertising material in form of related links to your search results (massive sponsorship) but if you like such advertisings you should have no problem.

Again, I suppose this was inevitable. Iron has a good adblocker! ;)

    4. Slows down your connection: The constant traffic to the WOT servers consumes a lot of bandwidth and slows down the browsing.

I haven't noticed any difference on SRWare Iron. If there is it isn't noticeable.

The first 3 points don't really bother me. #4 was the deal breaker. It slowed down Firefox and IE8 to a crawl.

Now to be fair, my system is pretty old by computer standards. A Dell XPS Gen 3 running a Pent4 3.6 ghz with 2 gigs of ram. :D Don't laugh, I'm married, and to keep her off the warpath I have to squeeze every last byte out of my PC's. This is my 5th one.

Later this year I'm going to build my own PC that will be upgradable for at least 10 years, I hope.

Maybe WOT just slows down old Pent4 and doesn't bother the new multi-core processors.

    Just a thought...
