Main question: Is there anything special that I need to know about booting a Toshiba laptop in safe mode?

    The details --
I have a friend coming over today who is having virus and spyware issues with his Toshiba laptop.

He was shopping online last week for a vacation condominium and hit an infected web site. A browser hi-jacker and who knows what else took over his computer, and now it won't boot completely. (Gets as far as the main desktop but the icons never appear).

Is there anything special that I need to know about booting it in safe mode? What I hope to do is run restore and get it back to before he hit the infected web site, and then start a clean up from there.

Or, if another approach to getting the clean up done would be more effective, I would appreciate hearing about it.

    Thanks,
    Rick

No - F8 as usual should be the key to hit. You might check the manual to see if it is different on Toshiba's.
See this article on how to do that in Safe Mode ....

How to start the System Restore tool at a command prompt in Windows XP Be sure to select a Restore point prior to the infection :)
Any cleaning method requires the computer to be booted up and we have guidance here at the head of the Removing Spyware & Viruses forum as to what you can do providing that the computer is running ....
