    Hello all,
I have been using McAfee Siteadvisor for some time and it has been quite useful for me. ;) I went back to Mcafee's site and discovered that you can download and install Mcafee siteadvisor plus for $20.00. It offers the same features as the normal version of siteadvisor but it has a few more features such as protected mode which will block every red and yellow site in McAfee's database. I have installed it and I tested the advanced mode to see how good it was and I was very satisfied. :D For example I typed in goggle.com in the adress bar of Internet Explorer 7 and siteadvisor blocked the webpage because it was a red and dangerous site. :)

I would highly recommend installing Mcafee Siteadvisor Plus. :) You can read all about the features of siteadvisor plus and download it from http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ie.html I now never have to worry about my computer getting infected with Adware, Spyware, or viruses again. :) What do you guys think about this?

Well...if it's working for you, great. For me, I'm not interested. I have one of the best anti-virus programs out there: NOD32. I use Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, CounterSpy and Kerio's firewall. And yes... I also use McAfee's Site Advisor but... (and here is the big difference)... I do NOT want any program blocking my ability to surf wherever I choose. I'm in control (or at least I'd like to think I am) and while I appreciate advice, I don't want to have to over-ride some program that restricts me. Just my two cents (besides, I've never been a big fan of McAfee for a variety of reasons, some dating back eight years now).

    Hi, Evan.

The "Plus" version of SiteAdvisor in "protected mode" seems like it would be very handy for protection against typos when entering URLs in the browser's location field. :)

Although I use SiteAdvisor (free version), I would not want to use the "Plus" version's "protected mode" you described because it would block access to "yellow" sites that I want to be able to visit.

For example, my ISP is flagged as a "yellow" site by SiteAdvisor because SiteAdvisor found one file that makes modifications to the Internet Explorer settings. The file in question is apparently a modified Internet Explorer (IE) installer that tailors IE for use at my ISP. Although I have no interest in using that file, I still need to access my ISP's website. I need to access my webmail account so I can delete spam from my spam folder (filtered by my ISP) on a regular basis.

Can SiteAdvisor "Plus" be configured to block only "red" sites and still allow access to "yellow" sites?

While SiteAdvisor provides some valuable protection from malicious sites, I also do not believe that SiteAdvisor (either version) is 100% fool-proof protection against malware. For instance, I do not think SiteAdvisor can possibly have up-to-the-minute status on all the millions of websites that exist. For example, if a site has a recently-added malware application available for download and SiteAdvisor hasn't recently crawled the site, then one can still become a victim if one does not engage in safe download practice (i.e., scanning downloaded files with multiple anti-virus, anti-trojan, anti-adware, etc. scanners before execution).

    Hello Mailman,
If you get SiteAdvisor Plus you can turn advanced mode on or off but if you have advanced mode on you can't configure it to block only red sites. :( Thats a drawback of the program but if you feel that the site has been incorrectly flagged by siteadvisor you can leave a comment about the site and tell mcafee that they incorrectly flagged it as yellow. :)

Hope this helped to answer your question. :D Let me know if you have any more questions about the program. Also take a look at this link. Here are some questions about using siteadvisor and what you can do with it. http://support.siteadvisor.com/support-center/:)

    Hello all,
A few days ago I downloaded and installed Mcafee Siteadvisor Plus for free. I didn't have to pay $20.00 for it even though I did mention that you do. If you go to http://siteadvisor.com and you want to download Mcafee siteadvisor plus you have to pay $20.00. :(

But I searched for it on google and I found that you can download and install the program for free on download.com. Here is the link. http://www.download.com/McAfee-SiteAdvisor-Plus/3000-2144_4-10601556.html If most computers had this program installed there computers would have a very low chance of getting any nasty viruses, trojans, spyware, or adware. :)

Excuse me but you're starting to sound like an advertisement for this product and spamming is not allowed in these forums. I'm glad that you enjoy McAfee. But you're made your point, it has been addressed by a few others here and that really should put an end to the discussion.

    Hi James,
I apologize about what I said in my last post. :( I really enjoy McAfee Siteadvisor Plus but I am sorry if I sent anyone the wrong message about the program. I am also sorry if I was sounding like an advertiser. :)

Ah... no problem, Evan. I guess I misunderstood you. I'm glad it's working so well for you.

    All the best.

Thanks for the response James. I saw this video on youtube.com. It's called Spyware Rubbernecking. The video shows how spyware can destroy a users computer. Here is the link. :) ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3atmWmWCwlw I saw this video and I thought it was very interesting.

Interesting video but a bit melodramatic. As others have mentioned, there is no perfect security solution and McAfee is just one of many out there. With the billions of websites and the ever-changing security threats, McAfee cannot possibly guarantee that you or I will be safe 100% of the time. I use McAfee but take it's suggestions with a grain of salt. There is no program that can replace common sense. If you have malware programs, a good anti-virus and firewall (especially a "hardware" firewall), do not run exe programs without first scanning them and so forth, you'll generally be safe. To be perfectly safe, turn off your computer and forget about ever using it again. lol

Seriously though, there are many ways to protect oneself and McAfee is but one of them.

    All the best.

Thanks again for your response James. :) I know for a fact that I don't put all of my trust in Mcafee Sitadvisor or McAfee in general for that matter. I use many other programs to help protect my computer from viruses and worms such as Spybot Search and Destory, Adware Se Personal and Windows Defender. :D I also browse with Internet Explorer 7 and I stay current with Security Patches from Microsoft. So thanks again for your comments and feedback about this program and I wish you all the best when you're browsing on the Internet in the future. ;)
