I couldn't find an answer to this one by searching for it.
How do web pages get my e-mail address? When I visit some web sites, I start getting spam. I do not fill out forms or give them any information. I just look at the information on the web site. And is there a way to prevent this? My spam blocker catches a lot of them, but not all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for the great help on this board.

WayneH--Some of the gory details are here.
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=50551&highlight=Mailwasher
In summary, it seems that spammers now generate messages to millions of possible email addresses on the hope they will find a live one.
As I think in mentioned in the above link, I have received spam on an email address that I have never used or disclosed to anyone except the email (ISP) provider.
The spammers may target the most common, or specific, email domains at any given time. I have had a lot less spam recently than a month ago. Perhaps Comcast's filter is getting better, or maybe the spammers have moved on to target another email service provider.
Of course, you may be giving your email address out by accepting cookies from a site you visit. You might prevent that by setting the Slider at IE Tools|Internet Options|Privacy tab to Medium High or even High.

Thanks for the reply Jim. I have the Slider set at high at IE Tools|Internet Options|Privacy. I guess that is all that I can do for now. But it is very disturbing that this type of spam is possible.
    Thank again!

WayneH--See if your email service provider offers a spam filter. You may not get it by default but will have to activate it. It will not protect you from all spam, but it might decrease what shows up in your email browser.

    Re:E-mail

Thanks Welshjim. My ISP has a spam filter, but it doesn't catch as many as the filters I am running. I guess that's just life with the web.
