I recently downloaded the newest version of Adaware and cleaned out my new computer system. Since then, each time I turn on the computer, I get this message when windows loads:

    Error loading C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll

How do I get rid of it? Or do I need it?

I've gone though Add/Remove programs but when I tried to remove, it basically said it was previously removed but the icon was still there.

    Thanks!

It probably still has a run entry. Suggest you post a HijackThis log.

Yup. If you are going to post a log file from a hijackthis scan, you will need the app.

Download from the link in quicklinks (in my signature), make a folder for it (so not a temp folder and not the desktop) like maybe c:\hjt, run a scan, create a log, and paste it here.

Moving this to the Security section.

Go to www.sysinternals.com and download and run Autoruns. This free standalone app will show you ALL things that load when windows boots up. You can then remove that auturun entry using the app.

I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to reply, I posted my question the night before I was moving and then I went off and got married! I was even locked out because I forgot to update my email address. It's just been hectic!

I have left the computer that had this problem behind, so when I go back home to visit, I'll try out your suggestions. Thanks so much for your replies, I'll let you know if I need some more help :)

To Get Rid of Wild Tangent DLL Error

After running Ad Aware SE, I had the same problem - an error message at startup that read "Unable to load C:\Program Files\WildTangent\ Apps\ CDA\ cdaEngine0400.dll ". Using Add/Remove Programs to remove WildTangent didn't help. To get rid of the error, I followed these directions from "The ElderGeek.com" web site:

To Prevent Programs from Loading at Startup
Provides an alternative method to MSCONFIG for disabling programs from loading at startup. Two methods are provided; one for disabling entries for the current user and another for all users of the local machine.

Disable Programs for the Current User
    [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Right click the program you don't want to load and click Delete.
    Exit Registry and Reboot
    or
Disable Programs for the Local Machine
    [Start] [Run] [Regedit]
    Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Right click the program you don't want to load and click Delete.
    Exit Registry and Reboot

I used the option for Local Machine and right clicked Wild Tangent/cdaEngine0400.dll from the right side list. It worked like a charm. :) Good luck.
