Hi folks, I have just uninstalled a fancy 3rd party mail client, which was playing up, and have returned to using outlook express. I had thought of trying another 3rd party one, like Eudora, but am trying to cut down on the programs on my H/D. My question is that I have all the SP's installed, and Windows critical updates are up to date. Are there any SP's for my version of Outlook Express (v5.50 4807.1700). Although I use mail washer to preview my mail on the server, and delete/bounce any that look sus, I am paranoid about the issue of the preview pane, if I d/l something, when Im not concerntrating! so need to ensure that any patches are applied. Thanx in advance...Chris

It looks like you have the current SP's. But the preview pane is just like opening your mail. I would turn it off.

You can set Outlook Express to use the Restricted Sites zone when opening emails. Then it won't run scripts.

You can also get Script Sentry which is free doesn't hog resources and will pop up asking you if you want to allow things to run on web sites as well as in preview pane. here

These two sites will allow you to send yourself some harmless versions of the nasty things which can come in mail. Mail Tester and Another Mail Tester
