I have gotten that msg sometimes when I boot/restart SP followed by "can't start kernal mode driver service" then "can not load eio.dll." Anyone ever gotten those msgs? I can't find anything definitive on MS so far. Thanx.

Erik - Welcome to the Board :)

    eio.dll is a baddy!

Download HijackThis from my sig, save it to a folder and unzip it. Run the *.exe file and post the log here. Fix nothing - one of the experts will guide you.

Moving this to the Security/Virus/Spyware forum

Run HJT again, place a check next to the following and with all other windows closed, click fix.

Download CWShredder and run in fix mode. Empty all temp folders, TIFs, prefetch folder and recycle bin last. Reboot.

eio.dll appears to be a driver file, possibly soundcard. Check for updates. You could also try unchecking any related entries in msconfig and reboot. Check the event logs for any clues. Search the drive for the file and check it's location and properties. Let us know what you find please.

Just a little side note. You can remove this one line, also. It has already done it's purpose, just a left over from a driver install.

    Still does it...

I did what you suggested but the msg still appeared. eio.dll is a video card driver along with eio.sys & eio.vxd. I have the ASUS Radeon 9800XT card in the computer. Sometimes when it reboots then Norton virus autoprotect is disabled, sometimes not but only when the db is locked msg comes up.

Perhaps an uninstall/reinstall of the video card stuff would be in order. What do you think?

    Still puzzled,

    Erik

    Another thing...

eio.dll is not a video driver but part of the monitoring system that ASUS provides to check on the video card. I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with the eio.dll file or if it just can't load it with the system db locked. Then there is the earlier msg re: can't load kernal blah blah...

    Erik

The Google hits on eio.dll were conflicting - one sugesting a baddie, the other a video dll - apologies if I misled you.

Suggest you reload the video card monitoring system - you may need to reinstall the whole driverto achieve this.

As far as the kernal message is concerned I have so far found no reference that applies on Google and MS KB is of no help.

I'm having the exact same problem :( I just installed a new video card made by Asus along with their "enhanced" drivers. Everytime I boot up I get the same thing with the locked DB and eio.dll.

    Same with me....

I have the same "Loading kernel dll (EIO.dll) fails! Program aborts" msg. It began yesterday when I have installed my new graphiccard Asus A9600 XT/TVD. I have downloaded all the new drivers but it won't go away. Anyone any suggestions? :(

    Thanx!

funnies - Welcome to the Board :)

I'm not sure that the problem originally posted was solved - the original poster never came back to confirm.

As you will have read the root cause appears to be the Asus drivers. My only suggestion at this point is to email Asus technical support.

Yep same here! I installed the Asus v9999GE graphics card and now when my machine boots up it decides to reboot, sometimes once sometimes 3 or 4 times.... until windows traps it. The file I have trouble with is the EIO.SYS file which is an Asus Driver file.

I contacted Asus and after a couple of days they replied it might be SP2 - uninstall it  I did mention to them that this happened even before I installed SP2!

    My mobo is Asus A7N8X-X..

    Any ideas please

Have the same problem, but found a temporary solucion...

MoBo, asus p4pe, GC, asus 9999ge.

EIO.DLL error and cant start kernel etc error.

UNINSTALL the smart doctor utility, the EIO.DLL file is NOt a grafic carda driver but something related with the smart doctor, that for some reason....bring startup problems (sometimes).

At least in my case once UNINSTALED SMARTDOCTOR, had no mor problems EIO.DLL related.

I have done this 5 times, and 5 times it worked!!!

Something esle the omega nvida driver hang my PC, make it reboot, reboot, etc.......

    Hope it works 4 u.

And I hope asus resolves this problem a.s.a.p.

Sorry for my bad english, I am kinda far away!! :)

    Fixed mine

Here is what happened with me..
I was getting the EIO.dll error and 2 other similar errors on start up. I searched my system files to find out what the EIO file was, and it was a file for the SmartDoctor feature on the ATI line of Video cards ( mine being a 9800 Pro.) made by asus. What i did was go to all programs/ Asus and pined SmartDoctor to star tup , and just like magic... no more errors.

Having a bit of trouble understading your english.... what do you mean you go to "all programs/Asus and "pined "???....you put a shortcut or the .exe of Smart doctor in the startup folder?......I am having the same Start Service dialog box errors and the EIO.dll error as well.....I guess I will just unistall smart doctor and see what happens......as for the fellow that was rebooting 3 or 4 times in a cmd prompt I tires the sfc/ scannow program and that seemed to clear up the blue screen....but I cant figure out how to get rid of this other ****....
