Yesterday when I went to login my account picture was no longer showing. It was replaced with an avatar pic. Yet, when I go to %appdata%\\microsoft\\windows\\AccountPictures it does show up there. I tried a lot of suggestions including deleting the pictures in the folder, replacing them with another copy of the pic that I was using and it still won't show when I start to log in. I also tried sfc /scannow and the dism check for problems, both showed no problems. Also did a virus scan and malwarebytes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

To change your user account's picture, head for the Start screen and click your picture in the screen's top-right corner. When the menu drops down, choose Change Account Picture. The Account Picture page offers three settings: Browse: To assign a picture already on your computer, click the Browse button.
Have you tried this simple process?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did this several times and the picture showing is the correct one, but, still when I start to log in only the avatar is showing up, yet, the pic shows up in facebook, and other places including the picture in the screens top-right corner.

My account picture shows everywhere except on the login page which shows an avatar pic instead??? Have tried many suggestions other than recovery and still have this problem . When I bring up the start page the correct pic is showing in the upper right. Why doesn't the picture show up on the login page. It stopped working about 2 days ago. Maybe a day or two after my latest windows updates.

Read the link and it is the same problem I am having with my win 8.1 desktop. My chosen account pic is on computer and shows when I bring up the start menu upper right, but, only the MS avatar shows on the login screen. This did start happening after the Aug. 8.1 window updates(I don't remember date I updated) but problem started yesterday morning. And, what was weird is that when I changed my chosen pic to see if it would work it changed the pic on my laptop. Guess both computers are synced. I was able to change back on the laptop and currently is working just fine on the laptop win 10.

Yes! but still shows avator on login page, yet, new pic or any pic I choose does show on upper right where I go to change the pic the start screen! So the correct(chosen pic) is on the start screen but the login page now only shows an avatar???

Too late to uninstall the update that caused your problem?
I can only suggest using MS Feedback to see if that will help.

Thanks for the reply. There were 3 updates the usual for each month. Would have to uninstall them one at a time and see if that works, but, probably not worth it. Guess will have to accept the avatar for now! In the link you provided they apparently fixed the problem with an update for win 10. What is really crazy is that one of the pics that I tried to get to show up in the login page is now showing on my win 10 laptop as my profile picture yet the pic on the login page is still the first pic that I had installed on my 8.1 desktop the same pic that the avatar replaced on my 8.1 desktop.
