I am working on (or trying to) an HP SFF machine running XPP that used to be part of a company network. It was inherited by my user and she is using it as a local machine.

She must hit CTRL - ALT - DEL to log into the machine but for some reason the mouse and keyboard wont load on startup which effectively locks her out. The machine will sit there and eventutally go into screen saver.

When I unplug and then replug in the KBD and MS in after startup there is plenty of HDD activity but nothing works. The laser lights up on the mouse but there are no lights on the KBD.

When I start up without connecting the two pieces then connect them, again there is HDD activity but I get the same result

When I press the start button Windows shuts down normally.

I looked in the BIOS and did not see any settings for the KBD or MS

I can hit F8 on startup and can go into Safe Mode but once there, teh KBD and MS dont work.

The mouse and keyboard are standard USB units - nothing out of the ordinary required. There are no PS2 plugs on the machine.

Any thoughts on how to get the machine to load the drivers for her?

    Thanks

Look in the BIOS for an option called "Enable Legacy USB Devices "

Go to the computers manufacturers site, download and flash the bios.

well, all I had to do was threaten it with flashing and the KBD worked. Now I have a new problem - accessing the place where her docs are stored.

Even though she only uses the machine locally (not on a network) she disabled a network Sync before she started having this problem. The sync would always fail but now I cannot see where the docs are.

How would I renable the sync? I dont see anything in Programs - I'm not a network type of person.
