Resolved USB Comfort Optical Mouse 1000 [will not install]

I purchased a new Microsoft Optical Mouse 1000, this refused to instal in my Windows XP OEM Sony PCV-RX403N computer.
I managed to download software for the Optical Mouse 1000, as package has no software medium included in package.
After installing software, a caption states that:

File Mouhid.sys is not found in Windows\System32.

Other caption shown:

C:\Windows\System32\DRVStore\pnt32UW_0146674678D17813 is required and can't be found in computer.

I am unable to find any of these files or have I the Windows XP disc requested by the download - computer being a Sony made available of XP software part of their installation.
Any help will certainly be most appreciated. Thank you.

You should not need any additional software to be able to use the mouse on your Sony - or any Windows based computer - just plug it in and it should work.

The optional software provides for various advanced facilities - the download you require for this is ......

Intellipoint 7.0 32-bit for Windows XP from Microsoft

Is this the software you installed? No further files should be required from an XP CD.

Is the mouse recognised in Device Manager and are there any flags against the entry.

Can you try the mouse on another computer?

New Functionality: Marking a thread as 'Resolved'

We have added new functionality to the forum that allows you to mark your threads as 'Resolved'.

It is considered courteous to post a reply if you have been able to resolve your problem, or received an answer to your question. If you were given multiple suggestions/solutions, it is also helpful if you would list the solution that worked for you.

Once you have posted those details, when still looking at your thread, near the top (and bottom) of your thread you'll see the text "Mark Thread as Solved ". Click on it to mark your thread as solved.

If later you find that the problem has returned, and you had previously marked your thread as solved, follow the steps above. Instead 'Mark this thread as solved' you will see that in this case Mark this thread as unsolved is listed.
