I have acquired this Modem and it certainly is the easiest item to set up I have ever found, which, with my lack of expertise in matters such as this, is really something very welcome.

However, I do have one teensy weensy little problem which hopefully someone will be able to assist me with, and that is that this Modem does not work.

I spent well over an hour with Telus Technical Support, excuse the oxymoron even if it is at lease half right and they finally solved 'their' problem by telling me that they don't support this item.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I may go about troubleshooting this problem I certainly would appreciate hearing about it.

    Many Thanks.

I wouldn't call it an easy setup if it doesn't work:eek:

    Which OS?
Did you install drivers for it?
Please describe - "it does not work. "

Have you tried shutting the pc completely down since this is the only way to reset a modem. (rebooting does do the full job)

    Hi Steve:

Thank you for the reply, and I know it certainly is not the first time you have come to my aid.

I am using Windows XP, and I ran the setup CD for the Modem so would assume all the necessary drivers were installed.

The IP address of the PC is 10.0.0.1 and of the Modem is 10.0.0.138

I found the following troubleshooting tips on one site.

Ping the local loopback address 127.0.0.1. This verifies your hardware is working.
Ping your own IP address (from ifconfig or ipconfig). This verifies your network stack is working.
Ping the default Gateway IP address. This verifies you have LAN connectivity
Ping a destination by name. If this fails, try pinging the website by IP address. This verifies you can connect to hosts outside your LAN.

I turned off the PC Firewall and Anti-Virus and tried these and the first 3 worked but when I tried pinging a destination by name or IP address it did not work.

I would have liked to try pinging from my laptop but don't know how to do this because I would not have the slightest idea as to what to ping.

I know the incoming internet connection is working because my other modem works so the problem must lie with the Thomson but resolving this is way above my head.

I would assume the Modem has a firewall of some sort but have been unable to find this.
