Screen fades

    Hubby just bought a new laptop today. I have been setting it up with the programs etc that he wants on it. I have noticed several times now while working on it that it fades and I need to hit the function and F8 key to get it bright again. Is there a reason that this is happening or should I return it?

    Power saving? When you say working on it are you actually using it (ie the keyboard or mouse) or have you left it a few moments whilst it installs software?

    Do you have it connected to the AC power supply? If it is running off the battery it will automatically go into power-saving mode.

    Check in the User Guide/manual about power saving. Some guides have troubleshooting tips which might cover it.

    For any PC I am not familiar with, I look up the manufacturer's website and check at the information there (like Frequently Asked Questions-FAQs).
