My PC Desktop Motherboard is Asus Asus P5GC-MX/1333. I used SIW for system description of my system. I have 2GB of RAM installed. It says that the maximum support of RAM is 2048MB which is 2GB. When I check the internet, it supports of upto 4GB. Which one should I follow?

    4GB max
    2GB max

I tried the SIW on my Asus F80L laptop and the maximum is 8GB. Ok, Im totally confused on my desktop. I also tried it on my old Asus L4000H laptop and the maximum is 1GB, according to SIW, but the internet says 700MB max. which one should I follow

I will ask my PC shop who assembled my desktop PC for further questions.

    Yours truly,
    Chris

Your first links show that you can install a max of 4gigs.
Your second links shows how much is current installed.

In the second link, the Memory Summary>Maximum Capacity should be 3GB and above. In my Asus F80L, the maximum capacity is 8GB but it has 2GB installed. In my Asus L4000H, it is written as 1024MB but it has 256MB installed. On my sis's Neo 540NX2 laptop, it has 512MB installed but the SI report says it can hold up to 3GB of RAM.

So what is really the maximum capacity of the Asus P5GC-MX/1333? If Im going to follow the internet and tells me that it can hold of upto 4GB and ignoring the SIW report of only 2GB, then something might conflict.

What a strange motherboard I have.

Since it's christmas here in the Philippines, I'll ask the shop some other time. might as well add another 1GB to test.

Merry Christmas to you and too all WindowsBBS staff and visitors

notice the 8129MB in maximum capacity in the F80L?

I wonder if Asus has false advertisements on the product model? just wondering.

I heard that if you put additional RAM on beyond the maximum capacity, it will not work and sometimes your PC will crash or something

Here are the specifications at the Asus website
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1768&l1=3&l2=11&l3=498&l4=0
Memory "Max 4GB ". You can install 4GB, but Windows 32-bit may only recognise just over 3GB. Windows 64-bit will recognise 4GB.

Search there or look in the user manual for the specifications on your laptops.

Hardware "information programs" can give you a guide, but if you want accurate information, look up the specifications at the manufacturer's website.

If the major (motherboard) drivers have not been installed, hardware information programs may be wrong. Have you installed the drivers off the CD that came with the motherboard? You can look them up and check for updates at the Asus website.

So, SIW is the fault then. it's not giving the accurate report. I will follow the website, then.

*Now, How about my sis's 3GB max RAM Neo 540NX2 laptop?*

In the website, my old L4000H laptop can handle 700+MB RAM, so I will follow that instead of the 1GB SIW reported. same goes to my desktop which says 4GB max instead of the SIW 2GB limit.

Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

we'll go to Neo service center this monday, december 29, as the CMOS battery is dead. I also had it upgraded and it's now 1.5GB RAM. I'll ask them about the RAM. It's a 5 hour trip from our city to Manila, Philippines

Also, I will go with Asus's website with the 4GB limit for my desktop.

You also didnt have to reply with the Neo thing. I was asking for myself. I really appreciate of what you did. Im really sorry for the troubles you did. I can search for myself but thanks. Neo's website is somewhat dead at the moment so if we lose the driver cd, my sis is doom.

    Thanks again.

Also, if my Desktop is broken, I'll blame the shop who assembled it and Asus for the confusing infos (I'll mostly blame the shop, anyway)

    That's OK.
I found one laptop and the CMOS battery was under the RAM module. Try opening any access ports in the back. I don't think many laptops have CMOS batteries nowadays, they use the system battery so when the system battery gets quite low, the CMOS settings are lost or get corrupted.
