    Hi,
I've been wanting to add more memory to my computer, it's a 2000 Dell Dimension XPS Gen2./Windows XP Home. (Can't complain about the computer.) I read some other post on this and some recommended going to www.crucial.com, so I did. I have at the moment only 1GB. I run allot of stuff on my computer...not many games, but I do allot with pictures, I have the Adobe Photoshop. Then I make DVD's using Studio 11. These 2 things take up allot of space and just would like to have my computer faster in general. I keep it cleaned out and so on. I was just wondering what you all thought of the web site Crucial.com and what they suggest? They suggested I could go to 2, 3 or 4GB. I wouldn't mind doing the 4GB, just to speed it up and space. Anyway before I order I would just like some feedback on this site on what it suggest.

    Thanks so much!!

    Rhonda

    Rhonda,

You mentioned space a few times in your post and forgive me if I'm wrong but it's a common misconception with beginners that more RAM means more space on the HD, this is not the case.

However, if you're looking for more immediate working space (ie RAM) then there is no point going for 4Gb, your system will not see much beyond 3.5 (if that). For what you're doing 2Gb should be enough but 3Gb won't do any harm.

It's memory I want, that's the RAM correct? I know I added it to my laptop and it got WAY faster, even started and shut down faster. I just wanted to be sure too that the web site I mentioned was good to buy from and that their suggestions are good ones to go by on what they recommend too.

    Thanks, Rhonda

Fair enough, just wanted to make sure ;)

Crucial memory is as good as the best and better than the rest but as I said don't bother with 4Gb your computer won't be able to use all of it.
