I wanted a hardware firewall for my home computer so I installed a Linksys router model # befsr41 about 2 weeks ago.

The internet will stop working all of a sudden, then if I bypass the router it will work. Then if I put the router back inline then the internet won't work.

Then the next I'll try the router again and it will work.

    Does this router seem faulty?

I installed Comodo at about the same time, but I don't think that matters. I have turned off the XP SP3 firewall. I only have one computer hooked up to the router and I use comcast internet. The install of XP is only a month old and working great so I don't think it's the os.

    Thanks.

Have you looked in the configuration settings for the router? You may just need to go there and do "save settings" without changing anything.

Check if Comcast have any settings for a router. You may need to input DNS information (I am not a network wiz though).

Let me know if you want me to transfer this thread to the networking forum.

You may have already tried this, but have you checked to see if there is newer drivers for the router? The reason why I ask, I have a couple of Linksys routers (my prefered router) and one of them needed a new driver download. Once the new driver was installed, it worked perfectly.

Edit: contacting Linksys Tech support is another suggestion. The couple of times that I contacted them, they were great.
