I have an Asus A8Jr Core2 Duo notebook with 2GB RAM running on Vista Home Premium. The hardware specifications for RAM is 2GB. But after booting up the machine, 82% RAM has been used up.

Can I upgrade RAM to 4GB? Asus said no, but why not?

You only have 2 slots and your board will only read 2 GIG 2x1Gig or 2x 512mb.

Well, at least it is using your ram :D

You may want to restrict what is loading at startup!

I have 2GB, and even with 256MB assigned to a currently running virtual machine, I'm only at 62% right now. If I start yet another VM (512MB assigned) my RAM usage goes up to 76%.

Thanks Hawk22. I haven't seen 2Gig RAM so I wish the slots can accommodate 2Gig, 1Gig or 512mb RAM. It seems that the hope is gone.

    Hi Arie,

I use Windows Defender to remove programs from startup already. The second screen takes up significant RAM. After spending efforts, my RAM usage is 77% now, with only one single IE and a single tab.

Since you're using VM.... do I need a Windows 98 license to run a Windows 98 virtual machine? And can I run a Japanese Windows 98 vitual machine alongside my Windows Vista Home Premium English version, or XP Pro English version? Thanks in advance for information.

That's still quite a lot. What do you use to measure RAM usage? I use Multi Meter (Dual Core)

Yes, you need the normal license to run the software. Since it's a virtual env. you can run whatever language you wish in the VM.

I've got the reason for running out of memory! One of the two 1 Gig RAM has burnt out! After replacement, memory usage after boot-up has gone down to 50%, with a total of 2 Gig RAM. FYI.

I confirm that my notebook can use 2 x 2 Gig DDR2 RAM. Though I have only upgraded to 3 GB RAM for cost justification reason.

After the upgrade, the performance has increased alot. I can see usage of virtual memory and swap pages have gone. So, switching between multiple applications is just like a click. Idle time's gone!
