    Hello Everyone,

I just reinstalled Windows XP. I used windows update. Installed my graphics drivers and stuff but I can't use my driver disk for usb and stuff. When I go to My Computer it doesn't even show a DVD drive there. What can I do? I don't know what the model of it is (dvd drive) but I'm pretty sure its Sony.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I expect the problem is in Windows. A simple test would be to put the Windows CD in the drive and see if you can boot from it. If the CD won't boot, the BIOS is not loading it.

In Windows, you can go to Device Manager. I suppose it is an IDE based drive, so open the listing for IDE Controllers, highlight and uninstall the main IDE Controller. If the Add Hardware wizard runs when you restart it should allow you to use the CD/DVD to search for the correct IDE Controller drivers on the CD. If you have problems in the Wizard, click Cancel and hopefully the drive will be running when you get to the desktop so that you can install the drivers.

    Matt
