    Hi
I am trying to find out which one of my USB ports is truly a high speed (2.0). I have two in the front of the computer tower and some in the back but how do I know which is 1.0 or 2.0.

I did go into Device Manger and this is what it shows:

    Universal Serial Bus controllers
    Inter(r) 8280 1BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442
NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controler B1
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller
    USB 2.0 Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub

Please explain how I can tell which USB port is truly the 2.0 port?

    Thank YOu.

    Jean

    Hello Jean,

You have USB 2.0 - the tip off is NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controler B1

Both front and back are under that controller.

The difference between front and back ports is that the front ports interface with USB 1.1 devices and transfer data to the back ports. That will be slower.

    Regards - Charles

Thank you for the quick reply Charles. So what you are saying is that if I want the true 2.0 connection (the iPod recommends it) I should plug it into the back of my computer rather than a USB port in the front?

Hope this make sense to you, OK.

    Hi Jean,

    Sorry for not being clear.

You can plug the iPod into the front - both the front and back are USB 2.0 capable.

The slower transfer rate for the front is applicable if you plug a 1.1 device into the front ports.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks Charles,

I finally got the iPod charged (the light turned green) after plugging it into the USB in the back of the machine. I guess it didn't matter but I was worried about not getting it into the right one.

    Thanks for your help.

    Jean
