I have an old US Robotics cable modem that has become obsolete. It is no longer compatible with my cable company and has started to drop the internet a lot. I am looking for a new Cable modem, one that is current and upgradeable. I would like also it to be vary fast. I get around 8400 mbs but can't keep the link up very long. I have had the cable company out and they proved it to the cable modem. So what do you think, what's the best equipment out there?

I would look for any suggestions for appropriate modems at the cable company's website. They will probably have an email tech support where you can ask their recommendation. Since they are saying your old modem is not "compatible" maybe you had better check what they say is compatible. [If you see the COM21, go for it :)]

I have never ever had problems with the Linksys BEFCMU cable modem.

I have a Linksys WorkGroup Switch, A Linksys Router and a Linksys Modem Model BEFCMU10.

Absolutely no problems. ( not hardware related anyway LOL )

I had 3 machines on the system but only two now.

OK, here's the scoop. I got a deal on a SURFboard SB4200. This is a deal I could not pass up. My cable company said the it is compatible now and would be for the foreseeable future.

Now get this it was FREE. I just had to get it!
