I titled this Thread ambiguously because the problem that I am having is possibly a recognition problem. I installed and NEC DVD RW 3550 (master)on my system. I am running XP Home. I also have an older Samsung CD ROM drive (slave). I installed Nero 7.0 for burning. I can make audio and data CD's but if I try to Rip and Burn music from Media Player 11 my drive is not recognized. I get an alert to install a burner and restart the player. In like fashion the CD BURN button is ghosted out. I read previous informative threads on this site and found when I right click on my drive, I do not display a recording tab in properties. I looked for the NoCDBurner entry in my registry keys and found none. Is it worth it to uninstall MP 11.0 and go back to version 10 to see if it works..and if so will I loose all of my library. (It contains some old Zappa that would be hard to replace). Any help or suggestions will be appreciated as I have never been let down in the past ...Thanks again...Carl

    If your progression was ...
    Installed new drive
    Installed Nero 7
and the above two work together, try re-installing WMP 11 over the top of itself (may need local install file). This will introduce your new burner and Nero to WMP. As always have current backups and fresh restore point prior to task.

You listen to Zappa, you must be weird :D

I have gone to Add/Remove Programs to uninstall an upgrade of WMP, it talks about reverting to a previous installation. I very much doubt a "reversion" could take any of your own files with it. Ask on the Win XP forum if you have doubts before you try.

I will not categorically say that there will be no loss. Major changes, backup, hold your breath and click the button. Backup being the major factor.

Your HDD could fail at any time. (Frank would just be out there amongst the yellow snow :))
If your "reset" fails, you want to be back up and running at the same place tomorrow.

Rolling Back does save Library entries

I Rolled back to Media Player 10 and searched for "other media files" found Frank waiting in the wings and soon my library was populated again. The system kept bugging me to do an update so I did it and it still will not recognize my DVD burner....I will do another uninstall and go back to version 10 to see if it recognizes my DVD/CD device and will report on the result...Thanks....Carl

If you still have WMP 11 installed, check the following ...
    Tools > Options > Devices
List should populate displaying Drives, Display, Speakers.
Does it list your new DVD/CD drive??

When I go into the tools > options > Devices ...both the DVD and the CD ROM drive are recognized....
