I have a very strange problem .. I used to have installed an application called REMORA USB Disk Guard which protects files on a USB stick. I deinstalled the program as usual and it all looked fine. I now have the following problem with ALL of my USB ports: when I plug in a USB mempry stick the device is identified by Windows, no probs. But as soon as I try to move a file from my PC to my USB stick it comes up with a message saying that either my USB drive is full (which it isnt!) or that I should remove the write-protection from the drive. Any help how I get get my USB ports back to normal again??

reinstall the program and disable any write protection it places on drives.
    or
copy the files off the usb drive to the hard drive, format the usb stick fat32 and put the files back on it.

Some pens also come with a small switch on the side that enables and disables read write protection. If you have such a switch it may be worth checking out. Thought I'd throw this in since it's easy enough to forget such a small thing, if your pen has it.

Thanks for the advice, TonyT and goddez1 :)

Couple of feedback comments ... I have tried to re-install (and deinstall) the beforementioned application about 3 times ... everytime it seems to install and deinstall without any problems or errors. Secondly I cannot find anywhere a seting which refers to turn-on/off said write protection within that application. You would have thought that any write-protection would have been deleted when de-installing the application. Lastly, I have tried about 10 different USB pen drives .. some do have those write-protection switches some dont ... trust me I have looked that this myself ... by the way, the whole problem has started since I first installed/de-installed REMORA. Before that all my USB ports were fine.

Still, problem remains the same at the moment, any other ideas (other than re-installing Windows XP again)?

    Hello past1999,

Give uninstalling the USB root hubs a shot.

Uninstall thru DM and re boot - XP will re detect them.

    Hello past1999,

See if the REMORA software wrote to the registry entry mentioned in the quote and failed to undo when you uninstalled it.
    From a thread here: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/35725/?o=20
